Community Partners

As an urban-serving multicultural institution of the future, UTSA is committed to serving both our students and the needs of our community. We partner with nonprofits, community associations, government agencies and other public-serving entities across San Antonio to develop mutually beneficial opportunities.

Rowdy Corps Community Scholars Program

Rowdy Corps Community Scholars is a yearlong community-based, work-study program that engages UTSA students with the broader San Antonio community. The program provides work-study eligible students the opportunity to get real-world professional experience in a paid internship with our community partners, which include nonprofit and government agencies throughout the city. Rowdy Corps scholars work up to 19 hours a week at their work sites and are paid by UTSA through federal work-study funding.

In addition to the work placements with our community partners, the program incorporates critical reflective analysis, leadership and professional development training, networking events and service-learning projects in the community.

Community Impact

In 2022-2023, the program supported 58 students who completed 22,854 service hours, which translates into roughly $682,000 in economic impact in the community.

What Our Community Partners Are Saying

"The Rowdy Corps Community-Based Work Study Program at UTSA stands out as a valuable partner, bringing together bright and driven young individuals with a sincere commitment to serving their community. One of its distinguishing features is the emphasis on mentorship, where participants take the time to guide and support the youth involved in our program. This mentorship aspect not only enhances the overall experience for the participants but also contributes to the positive impact they make in the community. We love Rowdy Corp and look forward to meeting with these enthusiastic individuals who share a genuine interest in community service."

Need volunteers? Get UTSA Engaged.

UTSA Engaged is an online portal supported by GivePulse that allows UTSA students, faculty, staff, and campus organizations to record their service hours, find service opportunities and connect with various non-profit and community organizations. Through UTSA Engaged, those associated with UTSA use the portal to keep track of all service events and record hours. Non-profit affiliates post opportunities and assist us in verifying service hours.
